Himalayas region is inhabited by some of the highest human settlements on Earth with very little to no modern infrastructure and are isolated from the outside world. The region is inhabited mostly by the indigenous mountain communities, who depend on traditional/shifting agriculture, animal herding, and tourism activities. The region experiences harsh and coldest weather with heavy snowfall for most of the year. Due to the weather, the vulnerable population (women, children and elderly) are affected. Due to very little access to the market and basic services like nutritional food and warm clothes. Due to the cold weather the schools are closed for 4-5 months a year, while most of the students do not have warm
clothes to wear during the harsh winter season due to which they get sick while attending school. Bighnaharta Nepal has launched expeditions some of the coldest regions since 2020 to provide warm jackets to school children. So far, the organization has provided more than 1200 jackets to children in the Dolpo, Humla, and Gorkha districts since its inception. A team from the organization reaches to these places via transportation and even trek for weeks while transporting the logistics in mules and horses. This year the organization is planning to do conduct yet another expedition in Karnali and Far Western mountainous regions and distribute Jackets to more than 1500 children, in three districts: Dolpa, Humla, and Jajarkot. The organization will identify schools around these areas and will launch an expedition, a team will be assembled who will travel to successfully coordinate and conduct this project. A film-making team will also be travelling to make a documentary of the entire operation of the project and later to be released on digital media which will in turn aware the people inside and outside the country about their living situation and the issues that children face in these areas as well as to generate funds for the next expedition. With this expedition we aim not only to distribute warm jackets but also share feeling a warmth with the children and the community there hence, the name of the project.
