In addition to protecting themselves from COVID-19, people have also been dealing with problems including the shortage of necessities. Keeping that in mind, Bignaharta Nepal started the project, Operation Two Meals. The organization has been successful in providing food as well as medical supplies to almost 1100 families, 2 isolation centers, 2 rehabilitation centers, one orphanage, 3 health posts, one army post, and Jumla DCCMC.
Within a few months of the registration of the first case of COVID-19 in Nepal, the government initiated its first lockdown in March 2020. While at first, everyone believed that the virus would get eradicated in no time, we have witnessed several districts shutting down indefinitely. With migrant workers having no other choice than to return home and people getting unemployed with the downfall of several businesses, the need of surviving with a bare minimum became a national issue.
While vaccination is the only sure way of putting COVID-19 to a stop, its availability is yet scarce. In the midst of having to protect themselves from the virus, many people have found themselves exposed to a shortage of food and medical supplies.
Keeping that in mind, Bighnaharta Nepal launched its Operation Two Meals project. The aim of this project is to support the families who have been affected by the pandemic and provide them with necessary food as well as medical supplies with the assistance of local organizations, social clubs, and civil groups.
Although during the first phase, areas like Jumla, Kailali, Janakpur, Hetauda, and Biratnagar were given top priority, soon Bighnaharta Nepal was able to extend its support to areas including Mugu, Bardiya, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Siraha, and Lamjung.
With the constant support of national and international donors as well as local organizations, Bighnaharta Nepal was able to provide food supplies, medicines, masks, sanitizers, and PPE to all of the mentioned areas.
Operation Two Meals project has so far reached out to almost 1100 families, 2 isolation centers, 2 rehabilitation centers, one orphanage, 3 health posts, one army post, and Jumla DCCMC.
